Biography

Chendi (alias Tie Huang) is an accomplished ceramics artist.  Based in the township of Jingdezhen, the historic capital of the ceramics industry of China, Chendi hails from an illustrious heritage steeped in the fine arts of China.

Born in 1973 in the province of Shandong to Chen Yixin – a highly regarded artist considered in some quarters as one of China’s ten most influential artists – Chendi was exposed to rich intellectual and artistic influences from an early age.  Chen senior was a General in the Navy, notably with responsibility in the artistic aspects of party propaganda, a period rich in intellectual and artistic introspection.  Importantly, he was also an accomplished artist in all the important media of Chinese art including calligraphy, ink paint, woodcut paint, ceramics paint and, not the least, water paint for which the depiction of the rustic settings and still lives of his hometown are particularly sought after.

Chendi pursued his interest in painting from a typically early age of six, immersing in the influences and apprenticeships occasioned by his family background.  Upon graduation from the Art Faculty of Qingdao University in Art Faculty, Chendi’s attention turned fully to ceramics art when his family moved to Jingdezhen, eventually perfecting a unique approach that is a culmination of years of experimentation with temperature, ceramic composition and paint recipe.  The ethos of realism and provocative themes in Chendi’s early paintings has matured, yet extended in his ceramics art of today with an overlay of the rebellious texture and striking colors characteristic of Flambé Glaze.  Total mastery over and perfect expression of both the art behind the painting and the science behind the Flambé Glaze process in each piece of his ceramics art has all but put Chendi at the vanguard of a class of fine art all his own.  In his words, each piece of his finished ceramics art is thus a unique creature of execution and process, and non-replicable.  Chendi has since garnered critical reviews and the highest accolades in every exhibition he participated in from discerning collectors of art and investors alike.  The enduring quality of his work has been sealed with the commissioning and subsequent exhibition in 2009 of a series of 33 pieces of Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) Flambé Glaze plaques in conjunction with the World 2nd Buddhist Forum held in China.
