Company introduction
High-fired color glazes have occupied an important role in the history of China ceramics. The first known celadon glaze (monochromes) can be traced back to the middle of the Shang dynasty, about 3,000 years ago and to the Flambé “Jun” Glazes of Northern Song dynasty, about 1,000 years ago.
Flambé Glaze Ceramic Arts Gallery is the first of its kind to introduce this millennia-old Chinese art, working with the most influential and promising artists, using a contemporary form of art to promote it to the international market.
Flambé Glaze is formed in a high-temperature kiln of 1,330ºC. Due to the unpredictable changes in the kiln, each and every Flambé Glaze piece is unique in its own, and non-replicable. One will be deeply attracted by the multi-color and glossy coating texture of Flambé Glaze. As the old Chinese proverb goes: “No similar Flambé Glaze, one and only one. In kiln one color, out of kiln multi-color”.
Flambé Glaze ranked supreme in Chinese color glaze ceramics. The supreme technique combined with the supreme color recipes have won the hearts of the Chinese for centuries and it is known as “reproduction of precious stones”. Despite using the same color recipes, each Flambé Glaze piece can still differ in color and texture on its outcome. While difficult, with persistent practice, countless experiments and patience, the color and texture changes of Flambé Glazes can be better understood and controlled.
Blue & White ceramics and Famille-Rose ceramics have long been known in the international market but Flambé Glaze in contemporary art form is still in its early stage. Its intricate technique, coupled with unique multi-color effect and texture, recalls another old Chinese proverb that goes: “Fine piece is hard to find in a thousand kilns. Ten kilns nine failures”. This reflects the uniqueness, scarcity and the value of the art.
